3 Kisses
     Reviews
“Wings”

"Seldom do you meet a group that wins you over so quickly and completely as 3 Kisses. Professional partiers with hearts of gold, this crew is not just a good band, they are GOOD PEOPLE. Hang out with them for more than 3 seconds and you'll willingly revel in their goodness. Their sound is tight, poppy perfection, and their attitudes are worth a mountain of precious metals. In addition to their warmth and charm, these Texans also pack six shooters loaded with IQ. Their weapons of choice are a sharp wit and a clever phrase. We can't wait for them to entertain us at IMC05! It will be like a reunion with old friends."
Noel Ramos of IndieGate.com and the Independent Music Conference

"An exhilarating mix of pop tunes that keep you wanting more. Front woman Tish Meeks has a way of grabbing your attention and not letting it go."
Madalyn Sklar, founder of GoGirlsMusic.com

"I'd like to report that 3 Kisses is the best bar band East of the Mississippi. But since the band's based just outside of Austin, TX where each of its members tend jobs, raise families and support local causes, its 2005 touring schedule reads like a tourist's guide to bar crawling throughout the Lone Star State. So it was a rare and fortunate opportunity to be among the few Easterners who had the chance to catch 3 Kisses playing a different time zone as part of the Harrisburg, PA-based Millennium Music Conference during one of two GoGirls Elite Showcases at J.T. Croc N Berry’s. Drawing on a diverse range of influences that range from straight-up pop to ska and beyond, 3 Kisses is fronted by the kinetic Tish Meeks who no guitar, mic stand or stage can contain. She and band members Tony Meeks (rhythm & lead guitar), Jennie Rutherford (drums) and Lou Granda, (of the Austin band Dinkum) filling in on bass, wasted no time winning the crowd over to their infectious songs and spontaneous performance. Introducing new compositions and a handful of songs from the band's freshman release "Wings," the well-paced set gave 3 Kisses the opportunity to establish itself as a tight, well practiced outfit that can also cut loose, literally and figuratively. During several songs throughout the short set, Tish abandoned the stage entirely to greet and sing to the Pennsylvania crowd and bestow a little of the band's Southern hospitality. It made no matter that most of us were hearing these songs for the first time. The band's pop influences made these songs instantly recognizable and were served with enough passion to win over even the most skeptical in the crowd. Here's to hoping that 3 Kisses doesn't stay away too long."
Martin Folkman – Music Resource Group, Publisher of The Musician’s Atlas

3 Kisses - You glance at the opening page of the band's website, and you really don't get much of an impression. You begin to dig deeper and realize that this is not your average band. 3 Kisses have gone through a plethora of events that might have taken them out, but they, instead, have managed to come through. Tish Meeks, who, along with husband Tony Meeks, formed the band in the late 90s, was recently published in the ever-popular Chicken Soup for the Soul series. Her story, "Legacy," was written for her mother who succumbed to breast cancer. She also uses her music as a means of recovery. Speaking of music, Tony & Tish have seens members come and go, but have finally settled their line-up with the addition of drummer Jennie Rutherford and bassist Eric McCoy. Check out the downloadable music on the band's website. I think it will suprise you. Two pieces of news: 1. Tish received an endorsement deal from Daisy Rock Guitars, who specialize in guitars for females rockers; 2. The band showcased for several majors labels. We'll bring you the results when we hear from the band. -- by Sal Treppiedi

3 Kisses

Cool music! Abba meets Olivia Newton John and mixes it up with Joan Jett!

This reminds me of 60's radio baby! I love it! Tish your vocals kick! I'd love to get a chance to see these cats on stage. They talk about getting on stage to have fun and believe me I can hear the fun in all of their songs! It's not often that you can pop something in, and like every track but 3 Kisses has got it! Can you feel my excitement just writing about them? I hope they come up to Canada some time. They definitely will have me out to see them. Very cool stuff. The music is upbeat and happy and has the ability to lift your spirits immediately. The lyrics are intelligent and catchy with a pop feel that you just can't ignore. Check this out and add it to your collection immediately. Trust me on this one. From song to song I was bopping and truly impressed. 3 Kisses, your band has got to be the coolest!

3 KISSES-Wings (independent)

3 KISSES consists of Tish Meeks on vocals and guitar, Tony Meeks on guitar, synths and vocals, Ed Hale on bass and Jennie Rutherford on drums. The band sounds pretty alternative and hails from Brenham, Texas. This is their debut album and I think that the band is good in what they’re doing. My taste in music is different, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t hear that we’re dealing with talented musicians here. Their music is rooted in the sixties. When you keep in mind, that the band only exists for a full year now, we must conclude that they write some very nice and catchy songs, with clear vocals. Sometimes I miss a little bit of power, but the potential is there. The lyrics are about the things of every day. Something that may also appeal to a lot of our readers, because these things are also happening in your life. People, who like the more poppy side of bands like THE BANGLES or THE 4 NON BLONDES may want to check this out! -- Toine van Poorten, Metal Maidens

Getting Some Alt Pop Kisses

Bruce Von Stiers

3 Kisses might be an obscure name for an Alternative / Pop band. But it sure works for the performers who came up with it. They are a quartet that operates out of Texas . The band has released an album titled Wings.

3 Kisses comes out of the Austin , Texas area. They play a lot gigs around there and occasionally in other areas. The band has garnered a small legion of fans. When you hear Wings, I'm sure you will become a fan as well.

Tish Meeks provides the lead vocals for the band and plays guitar too. Her husband Tony plays the guitar, synth and provides vocals. Ed Hale plays bass for the band. And a British import, Jennie Rutherford, is the drummer for 3 Kisses.

The first song on the album is Yellow. It is a fun little song that has a retro ‘80's sound to it. “How does Yellow feel?” is the chorus and makes Tish sound a little like one of the Go-Go's. The band put together a hilarious video for the song.

The second song is the title track, Wings. It begins with an almost smooth jazz or dance track bounce. Then the song moves onto a head bopping pop mood. He takes her breath away and makes her want to fly, so “give me wings.”

Wastin' Time is reminiscent of the Bangles, albeit a light version. Although the beat reminded me of a Christian praise song that involves cartoon characters. Tish sings about not want to waste time in a useless relationship.

Come Along has some moody, pop guitar music.

Seek Your Own Way has one of those echo effects in part of it. Even though I hate doing things like this, I couldn't help but continue to draw comparisons to groups like the Go-Go's and the Bangles when listening to the album. Especially with Seek Your Own Way. I know that the music world has moved on to other forms, but some fans never forget and hold onto material from their favorite artists forever. I never thought that bands like Styx and REO Speedwagon would ever play venues again. But they do, and have other bands still being influenced by their music. I'm not sure where 3 Kisses draws their inspiration from, but surely their roots can be found in the music of Susana Hoffs and the Bangles or perhaps Belinda Carlisle and the Go-Go's.

Too Late is more of an intense rock piece than most of the songs on the album. Moody, with some too cool guitar, this song is very good.

The opening guitar for Complete reminded me of Three Dog Night's Shambala. But then the song moves into a moderate rock beat with still a little bit of a Three Dog Night lilt to it.

Other songs on the album are The Last Time, Undone, Wondering and Don't Pretend.

I hope that you will take a chance to drop by the 3 Kisses web site. They have samples from Wings and information about the band. I think that you will enjoy their music as much as I did. Their web site is www.3kisses.com .

3 KISSES - WINGS

By Jennifer Layton www.indie-music.com

This band has mastered a tricky concept -- making the sound simple and the effect big enough to fill a room. 3 Kisses is a four-piece band with a big party vibe. Even when the lyrics are sad or philosophical, the music makes you feel good.

They set the hook with the very first track, "Yellow," which is catchy, groovy, and so very cool. It's 60s-flavored modern rock with a lead vocal full of attitude, courtesy of Tish Meeks. As the CD progresses, the sound becomes more jangly, then kinda funky and fun, and even a bit art-rocky in places. Through it all, the band is tight. Such minimalist music could easily have sounded sloppy, but every pause in the beat stops on a dime, and every melody flows.

They also have a knack for lyrics you don't normally hear from a pop band. Take "Seek Your Own Way." The psychedelic effect pulls you in, with echoed effects adding a sweetness to the vibe. You can easily just float along on this. Or, you can focus on the lyrics and learn a thing or two:

Flying by a whim unworthy
Letting someone else write your story
Mistake to think you're without choices
Don't listen to the egocentric voices
Misleading your heart
Misleading your head ...

This band may have just saved me a few hundred dollars in analyst fees. I wasn't at all surprised to learn that Meeks has an essay published in Chicken Soup for the Recovering Soul.

Overall, this music is fun. That's the word that kept popping up in my notes. Jangly, poppy, sometimes giddy fun. This is what you play at a party. It's also something you can use to start discussions in group therapy, but only if you take it way too seriously.

REVIEW 3 Kisses Wings (Self-released)

Essentially the husband and wife team of Tish and Tony Meeks, 3 Kisses is a pop-rock outfit that is predicated on having as much fun as it can. So, Wings is indeed sweet - especially with Tish's heartfelt vocals and the selection of light-hearted songs - and should have every fan of earnest, tuneful and vibrant pop-rock singing its praises.

"3 KISSES – WINGS: 3 Kisses is the multi-talented Tish Meeks on vocals, guitar, keys and sax along with her husband Tony Meeks on backing vocals and guitar. Ed Hale on bass and Jennie Rutherford on drums provide the dynamic, snappy rhythm that is a constant throughout Wings. 3 Kisses incorporates various styles into their spirited music ranging from alternative power pop to rock with shades of dance, folk and melodic. Their well-crafted lyrics look at both the good and bad experiences of life. 3 Kisses sound is unique with the use of unusual guitar chords and arrangements with punchy beats and funky keyboard effects. Tish's vocals can range from dreamy to powerful. 'Yellow' is the opening song with its catchy, colorful rhythm supported in part by animated keys. The guitars and vocal inflection are up-tempo with an edge. 'Wings' – the title track soars on a steady, snappy beat enhanced by whimsical keys. Tish's vocals reach for the sky as the guitars flow on the groove of the song. 'Seek Your Own Way' is a dazzling, vocal track strengthened by atmospheric instrumentation. 3 Kisses brings passion to their music and Wings is a delight from start to finish!" Hit Session

"This four-song sampler from Austin, Texas outfit 3 Kisses is designed for fans of pure 80's girl band pop. Even though there are two guys in the band, it's easy to imagine the songs on Wings being played by the Bangles or Go Go's. The musicianship on the songs is suitably loose, with guitar, bass, keyboards, and drums creating a foundation for vocalist Tish Meeks. "Yellow" opens with a brief blast of electric guitar, but it's Meeks sassy vocals that provide a focal point. Melodic keyboards and solid rhythm guitars propel theradio-friendly track "Wings." The Bangles reference is most easily heard inthe flower-pop song "Wastin' Time." Bouncy guitars and Partridge Family keyboards elevate this track to ear-candy status. "Undone" brings back echoes of the band Lush, as the song combines a delicate layering of vocals and instruments…give the band credit for finding a style and sticking with it."

"Some excellent bass playing really sparks this 4 song EP from 3 Kisses.
In reading the bio,I was shocked to see Ed Hale had no prior bass playing experience,he plays like a 20 year pro, making 3 Kisses that much stronger. Tish Meeks has a nice voice, able to roar on songs like "Yellow" and on to the title tune, "Wings". Husband Tony and drummer Jennie Rutherford (who learned the drums on the job) round out 3 Kisses.
This is nice EP and I really enjoyed it very much. Looking forward to hearing more from this Austin,Tx. based band. Recommended."

  Indie-Music.com Review

"I got the newest demo release from Austin-based rockers 3 KISSES. I popped it into my stereo, not really knowing what to expect in the next ten minutes, but being pleasantly surprised at the result. 3 KISSES is a highly stylized pop/rock outfit that writes highly catchy and offbeat songs, which are an excellent mesh of many different musical styles.
Opener "Yellow" is a catchy ditty that mixes intricate slap bass with interesting guitar work that swings between straight up pop and funky wah. The stylish vocals remind me of Gwen Stefani. Singer Tish Meeks has an infectious voice that rolls out her vocal hooks with ease and draws in the listener. The song is short enough and filled with enough interesting hooks to warrant multiple listens. I personally spun it 3 times before moving onto the next track and found something new with each consecutive listen.
The second track, "Wings," brings the mood down and lets Meeks' vocals flow over some interesting, melodic guitar work. The guitar effects are layered, giving it the feeling of having backing keyboards, which is a nice touch. The song doesn't lose any energy however, due to the excellent and strong rhythms provided by Ed Hale on bass and Jennie Rutherford on the drums.
"Wastin' Time" finishes out the demo on a strong note with an excellent dual hook, with the guitar mirrored against what sounds like a xylophone. Along with sporadic saxophone bursts, it sets a great landscape for Tish to sing around. The song is insanely catchy and was stuck in my head in seconds.
3 Kisses has made an excellent offering of their music. It's catchy, well written, did I mention catchy? - and excellently mixed. The only unfortunate part about this CD is that it's over too quickly. I hope they put forth a longer release in the near future."

INSite Magazine Review

"3 Kisses formed in 1998 when the husband-wife team of Tish and Tony Meeks decided to form a duo in music. They decided to relocate to Austin and picked up Bryan Breaux as a drummer to round out the trio. Tish has a very atmospheric voice, it's actually quite doll-like. It almost has a Tony Basil quality to it (think 80s "Hey Mickey" fame). Tony provides a nice rhythm on the guitar and drummer Breaux provides the beat on the drums. The eleven track Wings comes in at just over forty-one minutes. The title track is a laid-back Cranberries-like song. "Take my breath away, Shoot me high into the sky. Wash all my fears away. You make me want to fly. Give me wings." The ultra-sappy "Complete" is a very sweet song about finding love and joining together to become one complete being. The first song on the CD, "Yellow" is a pissed-off anthem complete with a wa-wa guitar. They also have three songs available for download on Austin's WB - http://www.austinswb.com/"

3 Kisses – Live Performance
"As I was listening to this duo, an audience member said, “If they are a couple, they are just too cute.” Yes, this is true!  A magnetic pair on stage, Tish & Tony embrace a multitude of styles with their music from classic rock, folky-pop, to dance groove melodies. This group has what it takes to make an audience want to listen. Only performing less than a year on stage, they graced the stage like professionals."

General Review for 3 Kisses

"With Tish supplying lyrics and melodies, Tony surrounds them with his musical magic.  This is the essence of “Wings” and the result is a unique sound, echoing tunes of the early 70’s with an edgy contemporary twist.  Three songs stand out as major representations of this album.  “Complete” sings of the search for ultimate love.  This is one of the most melodic songs on the album and is rich in acoustic guitar with layers of sub-melodies throughout.  In “Come Along”, Tish refuses to bore listeners with vanilla lyrics. The music is filled with syncopated rhythms creating the edgy feel of being on an emotional roller coaster ride.  The first song on this album is titled “Yellow” and is probably a good sample of the direction that 3 KISSES will be heading in future projects.  This song makes you want to dance.  Drummer Bryan Breaux provides a solid performance for this energy packed song while Tony pushes it through with his “cry-baby” enhanced rhythm guitar.   Tish sings the punchy verses with a smooth, almost velvet, tone that is destined to be a 3 KISSES trademark. 3 KISSES new album “Wings” is a journey to be enjoyed and asks to be taken."
